we do have a registry but its a joke... he was added to this registry in 1999

the only one that has access to this registry are law enforcement not the public.... the law will not notify anyone if a child predator moves into the area.... he can live right next door to a school and no one will be notified... the registry is there to aid law enforcement if paperwork.. lest searching through multiple data bases

We hope that is the outcome...

I guess Canadian rules of court are different. An appeal is about one side or the other doing something that should not have been allowed by the court. Its not about the ruling; its about following proper procedures. Its interesting to see how other states and countries criminal justice system is applied. I just work with the one in Texas and the learning is never ending...

When I said rulings, I meant things like procedural rulings on various motions by either side, objections that were or were not sustained, etc. Defense can also argue that they received an inadequate defense for one reason or another that really has nothing to do with judicial procedings, but rather with whether their attorneys could have and should have done a better job in defending them.

I believe many of the US registries began that way, but in many, if not most or all locations, it is now considered public information, and is required that people within a certain distance be notified. Also, places where children routinely congregate (such as schools) are prohibited; registered offenders are not allowed within a certain distance.

There are websites where you can list an address or zipcode and get the names an locations of registered sex offenders in an area (including the information on the specific type and degree of offense.

Just last year there was a HUGE uproar.

A pedophile on the list moved into the house right across the street from my sons school, A parent noticed this man watching out the window at the kids boarding the bus to often. she did a reverse look up of the address and got the telephone number and the name at that address. googled the name and whammo the notice in the Toronto saying he was a convicted and on the registry.

she then facebooked the name and it was the same person in the window... she took the information to the school and the police and the police told her there is nothing she can do he servied his sentence and it was out of their hands until he hurts another child or approaches the child

an officer was watching the house for a few days and noticed him watching the kids to often like the parent said.... he was arrested and relocated...he was arrested because his orders were not to be within x amount of feet from a school bla bla bla...

when police were questioned they simply said they dont have the manpower to keep up with all the offenders

**ETA**
he had lived there for 2 years without issue

Just sick and scary. Our registry is public, thank God. But there are pages and pages of them and its so scary. There was a pedo living up the street from my parents. Always made me nervous when we were there and our kids were outside. But, at least we knew so we could keep an eye on them.

yup the registry is a massive joke...I completely agree. just like when they are found guilty they get like 10 years or so, minus timed served if any and then they only have to serve 1/3 of the sentence and they are out.

I'm glad the judge has some common sense and values children. It's appalling how much information is kept from juries that they NEED to know. I mean, he was examined by a nurse for abuse! I'm glad the judge put him away as long as they could. I have no doubt that he'll violate parole again, so I hope someone will be watching him and pounce on it and get him off the streets as soon as he's back out.
