Vernon, CT*UPDATE* Voted down :( but will try again!!!!

I know that chickens are still not allowed in Vernon. If you can keep it quiet and your neighbors are on board, your safe. I went to a hearing where two residents had to get rid of their chickens. It was very sad.

Hello, I am new to BYC and new to vernon. my family and I just moved to Vernon, ct a few months ago from Lebanon ct. We brought our coop and chickens with us. We bought a house with over an acre on it and we have talked to all our neighbors about our chickens free ranging and all of them are very happy to see that there is agriculture around their homes. quote: "It brings the country" they say. So I am lucky to have support in my neighborhood for my chickens. I even have a rooster that coo's in the mornings. So we are crossing our fingers about being able to keep him around. Im thinking the land we have gives us enough of a sound buffer.

Omg?! I didn't know this?! Thats ridiculous?!?! Chickens are less invasive then an annoying loud dog at a neighbors house! should we ask the town for our neighbors to get rid of their dog because he's loud?? Chickens are as much as a pet as dogs..

Hi All!

I work at Strong Family Farm in Vernon Connecticut and I am working on forming a community group to get Chickens into Vernon!

Through the farm I have met MANY residents in favor of chicken keeping and I think if we get a large enough group together we can get chickens into Vernon.

I would like to get our group formed and solid before the winter so that we can hopefully being raising chicks in time for Spring 2014. Here's hoping!!!

In the mean-time we have chickens at Strong Family Farm and we even offer a chicken adoption program. (the chickens stay on the farm!) I am at the farm every Wednesday morning from about 9am - 12pm if you ever want to stop by and chat about chickens.

Let me know if you are interested and I will give you my e-mail address.

I look forward to working with all of you soon!

Alexis
Strong Farm should be able let us know what or if there are rules, laws etc. As per the zoning laws chickens are not considered livestock, so there are regs for livestock but not poultry, please help us
