Versions of "chick chairs" PLEASE!

This is a basket version of a chicken sling that looks easy to make:

I would only leave the chick in there for a few hours at a time. They can struggle to get out, and can get hurt, so keep an eye on them. Place food and water close enough to reach. Here are a bunch of homemade chairs and slings:

Is there a way to get a pic of the underneath on the top picture? Thanks

This thread is from a while ago but I thought I'd post mine in case it's helpful! I tried a 'chick chair' with a sock but it was just too big for this little chick, a sling made with really thin jersey seems to be working much better! She hates it but isn't struggling to get out of it as much. Fingers crossed it works!

I (and two vets) suspect that my Light Brahma, Goose, has Marek's. About three months ago, she started limping, and now she is unable to stand. She still moves one leg, but I think she may have hurt it while compensating for the unusable leg, so we made her this sling. We included a removable roosting bar for her to grab on to since she always loved to perch on her roosts, and my husband 3D printed her some cup holders for her food. Goose is about a year old.

If we can ever help any of you by making and sending you one of these to help your chicken, we'd love to. We are also working on designing a similar structure that is smaller and for chicks that can quickly be 3D printed and shipped out to help those of you dealing with baby chicks with splay legs and such. We would do it for free or cost. Not looking to make money. Just looking to help all of the chickies. Feel free to send me a message if any of that sounds like it could help out your chooks. 💓

This is actually a wonderful idea, to add the removable roost bar for a bit of "normalcy". I had a cemani roo with a vitamin deficiency, who lived in my home office for 8 months before being well enough to join the flock. He ended up with an awful "bedsore" on his breast becuase I didn't realize that laying around all day, even on a soft fleece blanket would cause a pressure sore. That eventually healed once he started being more mobile, but it was a long recovery.

Now I'm dealing with a teenie bantam hen with frost bitten feet. I'm 99.9% sure she will lose the toes on one foot and possibly the tips of the toes on the other.

As of right now, she hops around on the one working foot but she lays down for more of the day, so I've been thinking of crafting her some kind of sling to help avoid the issue I had with Pigeon the cemani last year.

Something like this, would be great, as it seems to be able to be made adjustable enough to fit the need of many sized birds. Raise the bar for smaller birds, lower it for bigger ones. What a lovely idea.

Do you have a set of plans or maybe a video to explain how you made it? I've built barns, coops and bungalows for my animals, but I've never been great with smaller measurements unless it's very detailed!!

Ty in advance!! ❤

How is she? Did she ever recover? You should sell these online. I had a few die from Mereks and I tried to make slings and they would somehow get out of them. They would still be able to move their wings and one foot and I’d find them all messed up in the sling or laying under it. I would of bought one of those you made if I had found them when mine were sick.

This would be extremely helpful! I have a five month old barred rock hen with what I believe to be Marecks (she was vaccinated). She is hungry and thirsty but have been having a time of it with hee getting stuck on her back.

I’m fairly certain my chicken has Marek disease so it’s a matter of comfort care, so remember all those facemask we wore for Covid well, I put two together and suspended her over her brooder box. She seems more comfortable standing then when she was laying I have one facemask in the front and one facemask in the back I put a tube through the elastic straps and have her suspended so she can put pressure on her one good foot. She seems very content and comfortable.

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry to hear about your chicken.
Thank you for the tips of using face masks as supports for a chick chair, good idea.
If you have photos of how you have this setup, you're more than welcome to add them to the thread so others can have a visual of your description.
