Went out to feed and noticed that one of my 8 week old Cochins didnt move. I looked closer and her left leg was completely straight out behind her. Sort of like a human doing a split.
When she tries to put any weight on it, she just falls forward and the leg goes backward. Its as though its dislocated from the 'hip'

I brought her in and put her in a small cage. I used vet wrap to put the leg in a 'brooding' position...sort of like she would be if she were perched. The 'knee' is fine and the 'ankle' also.
No obvious trauma. No heat, no swelling.

She can move it some but has no real control over it.

She has food and water within reach without having to move.

How long should I leave her like this before checking it?

Thanks!

I have a chick with a similar problem - Nothing was broken and yet she cannot bare weight on her leg.

Some say Mereks but mine was innoculated so I looked further

She had mold in the brooder - the others were all fine but mold will paralyze their legs.

Give her poly vi sol (no iron) drops and some black molassis. They like both.

Keep her warm and isolated and give her food and water.

Mine has not fully recovered but she can stand on one leg.

I think I am too late with mine as her other leg still cannot bare weight and doesn't want to straighten anymore but others with similar issues birds recovered.

Someone here made a sling for their chick.
