Very disappointed in egg color BCM

Mine layed her first egg 4/27. Yes, size is good, her's are a long oblong shape, so I always know which is which.

I got them at 3 months old, so they have been here since February, and they were my first 2 for my flock. She has been laying since 4/27, not sure of the number, she probably lays about 5 eggs a week I'd say.

And now for the pictures.....

Does this look like a black sex link instead of a maran to anyone?

Sad I was lied to, but I didn't pay a lot for them. I will let her know that she is misleading people with calling them "locally bred BCM's". Wonder if she is a member here.

They will be rehomed or brought back to the "breeder" to make room for something more desirable for my flock. I don't need them, and honestly, don't like their personalities anyway.

Thanks everyone.

Just curious if the person that you purchased them from may have had any Welsummers? The term Terra Cotta colored egg is usually in used in respect to the Welsummer breed and I am seeing a rooster that looks VERY MUCH like the birds I got from crossing a Welsummer to a Marans.
I crossed them to produce a nice sized meat bird...worked too, the males were ready for butcher at 4 mos. vs. the more normal 6 or 7 mos. of age. Didn't save any of the females, so I can't comment on their egg color, but I would suspect it would be on the darker side. I sold them all as layers. I agree with the others and am sorry that you did not get what you were expecting.

She never mentioned anything about Welsummers. I remember her saying that she was making her own line of BCM's. I've seen her ads on Craigslist since then. They had a nice set up. One side of the property was just a lot of laying hens that they sold eggs from. The Marans were in the back in their own breeding pen and were hatched and raised by their parents. Live and learn. Someday I will have a nice, chocolate egg layer.
