I have a Buff Orpington Wyandotte mix. She went broody about 3 weeks ago but I accidentally scared the heck out of her while trying to collect eggs and she left the coop. She went broody again Monday and hasn't left the nest box since. She doesn't seem to be eating or drinking and it is really hot out. I got a coop temp of over 100 yesterday, Ive been putting frozen 2 liter bottles out there and keeping the area around the coop & run wet so the girls could stay cool but my broody wont get out to benefit from it. I stuck an ear of corn in the nest box this morning and she ate a little bit of it but stopped and I think one of my other girls got it. She did eat a litle bit of it from my hand but thats it. What should I do? Should I encourage the broodieness and maybe buy a couple of fertilized eggs to put under her or try to stop her broodieness? Im mostly concerned about how the heat is going to effect her. I have a large egg door that I open when it gets too warm in there to vent the heat & let in the breeze. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I couldnt flip thru the other broody posts, Im nursing a fussy 3 month old lol.

You could remove her from the nest a couple of times a day to assure that she is eating and drinking. If you feed her or water her in the nest, she has no reason to leave and may eventually defecate in the nest.

forgot to add, she is 14 months old & regularly lays eggs. With this heat we've gone from 30/week from our 5 girls to 6 this week

Im not sure if she is stil laying or not?

I will go take her out right now, didnt think about her staying because I feed her in there. Today was the first day I offered her food while in there. Thank you! I know it seems obvious to just take her out but I was afraid to move her incase it could somehow hurt her or something. I didnt read enough about broody hens, I figured if I didnt have a rooster they wouldnt go broody. I guess I need to go read up on broody girls
