VERY muddy run, please help

How long will it takes for that to drain off?
Was pic taken after an unusually heavy rain?
Doesn't look too bad......deep litter would handle it.

Isn’t too bad?? Oh, I though it was haha! It certain places the birds even appear to sink down when walking. It has been quite wet and cold recently.
Have seen much worse, I had more water than that standing in the run the other day after 3" of rain, but it drained off/soaked in after a few hours.....why I asked the questions above.

My run is a compete mess! It's been raining cats and dogs here in Southern Indiana!

I hear ya there. North Central IN for me. We've received around 6" in the last 2 days. To say the run is a mess is an understatement. Certainly not a drainage issue, but frozen ground with an insane amount of water that has no where to go.

Local damn usually has 6k cubic gallons per second flowing through it, yesterday it was releasing upwards of 18k and was having a hard time keeping that 'safe'.

I'm hoping the rain is done for a week or so.

I would do deep litter there. I would try to get a couple loads delivered now and slowly start adding it, or if you can take down a side and the dump truck can get it back there, have them put it right in, less work for you. I am a newbie, however and I know many people do not use fresh wood chips. I added fresh woodchips last summer without issue. I kept extra near the run to add this summer. I hope to get another load this year after the garden is up and running.

I would try putting 25mil, approximately 1inch, gravel down over this rather than wood chipping or shavings. We had this issue a couple of years ago from leaking guttering on neighbouring property, and the wood chippings caused more trouble, got soaked and went stagnent- smelt horrible - we ended up moving the chicken run. Good luck.

My entire 4 acres of frontage is nothing but standing water this time of year so I know how you feel. But as my run is the remnants of a 20x60 greenhouse it was already filled with pea gravel. No mud, ever!

However, my chickens roam the muddy frontage anyway...

Me too! I'm getting a load of sand in and moving the coop when it dries up.

Mine muddy too and I don't have any ducks. I bought a bail of $10.00 hay and put that down. the birds seam to love it. I can not get sand out to my run it is to far and you would get stuck. The hay bale I can carry.
