Very new

Has or does anyone use solar energy for their chickens as a heat or light source ?

We live in Cleveland Ohio so it gets very cold here and lots of snow

Hello everyone ! Well we're official we brought home 4 chicks on Wednesday .A golden lace Wyandotte we named Violet, a Buf Orpinton named Sally,a Jersey Giant named Lucy and a white Plymouth Rock we call Marcie. They are doing well in their brooder box and are even starting to,be not as nervous when we talk to them and first go into the room .We're planning to build the coop over the weekend as long s the weather cooperates even though know we have time .

Congrats - you won't be disappointed with your choice of breeds (though I don't think it's possible to be disappointed with any of them, lol). I noticed you had asked about using solar power for light and heat above and wanted to touch on the heat part- healthy, fully feathered birds of the breeds you have will not need any heat, even in the dead of winter for your area. Adding heat to a coop often does more harm than good. There are, though a few folks who have posted various solar projects they have installed for their coops for lighting, etc. This is the thread that first comes to mind: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/940221/my-solar-powered-coop I have toyed with the idea myself as electric is not currently an option due to the location of my coop, but haven't quite made the leap just yet.
I hope that the weather cooperates and you are able to get going on your build - these little ones will grow faster than you can believe and be ready to be up and out in their new coop before you know it
