Very Red Skin

Before the weather dropped to a deep freeze my rooster Bob appeared to start a molt on his neck. Now nearly 2 months later still no feathers not even little ones. His skin is a bright red. Does anyone have any idea why? No one else seems to have a problem.

Dang it Bob lol is it the same spot? Some are just slow molting. Bump up his protein a bit. I see a few pin feathers but he definitely has a cold patch!

My hen had a few patches like that, I think it's just irritation since there's just feathers missing.

Hormones make the skin red.

These two are not sunburned but are a result of what I call genetic gene play. Though difficult to look at, these two reveal how red the chicken's skin actually is.

I get concerned with red skin when I see blood oozing, or green/yellow ooze and a bad smell. The presence if mites indicates you need to treat for that. As mentioned, evaluate your chicken's diet to see it there is room for improvement.

Right now I give them Purina laying pellets and at the advice of a fellow Chicken owner for the winter I have been mixing in some whole oats sunflower seeds whole corn and scratch. I also give them table scraps. There is no smell no oozing just no feathers.
