My real name is buried because it's common, unless I use my whole name, including maiden name. But put "ninjapoodles" into Google, and suddenly, I'm EVERYWHERE.

I actually think there is something about chicken poop. When my youngest daughter was little, probably about 10 or so, a real good friend of hers, oldest sister played in an old chicken house that had been vacant for years and contracted some kind of disease that affected her eyes. BUT, come on, we can worms from our dogs, cat scratch fever from our cats, rat pee pee on our coke cans can kill us, if we listened to every single scare story we hear, we would all live in a bubble. . .right?

I just went to the opthomalogist a month ago. I go every other year for a check up. I had to tell him I had chickens, he did NOT tell me. i dont believe that is a truism.

My eye doctor said to be sure to always wear a mask when cleaning the chicken barns. It does not inter thru the eyes but thru the lungs.
I have heard of people who worked around chickens getting this.. No laughing matter...

OK Saw the eye doctor yesterday.

Like English i have troubles with my eyes and I go to one of the eye hospitals. so i asked this question.

I say, "I heard a rumor that having chickens can hurt your eyes - other than the scratching them out thing and not histoplasmosis."

Doc:

"I'll ask."

Big confab in the hallway. Mutter mutter mutter Bigger confab in the hallway. Call Chief resident.

Then he snarls at them, "Find it it'll make you famous after you write it up!!" He stalks off snarling, "Chickens!"

Me in exam room:

Found out my eyes are still pretty healthy but vision is currently ready for this? 20/830 in one eye and 20/870 in the other!! Thank all that is for modern technology!!

Otherwise I'd be sitting on a corner somewhere with a cup !

I went to the eye dr recently, and she specifically said my eyes were fine, no damage at all. For what that is worth, anyway.
