Very Serious Cat Problem.......Could Use Advice ASAP UPDATE

I could always add a small amount of fish oil. Would probably be great for her skin too, if she has dry skin. Couldn't hurt I don't think. You have some good ideas and knowledge...thanks for hangin in there with me today.

No problem. I have gone through a lot over the years with my cats. My oldest is now 19. The middle cat is 12 and she looked like a furry bowling ball for years. She is small and weighed 22 lbs. We tried diet foods, limiting her food intake, and all it did was make her fatter and more miserable. After learning about carbohydrates, we switched her to a low carb, high protein food and now she is down to 11 lbs. Still big for her size, but much healthier. Our youngest cat is only 1 and when he moved in with us (he is actually my oldest son's cat and so is the middle cat, but we will have them while son is in basic training) he was eating corn based food too. We have him on the high protein feed now and he loves it and is so healthy he drives us crazy with all his energy

My dog that has hypothyroidism blew up like a balloon over a short period of time. Even though he has been diagnosed and is on medicine, and even though I have him on a strict diet, he is still overweight. Not as bad as before but he still looks a little balloon-like.

How is you cat doing today?

OH MY GOODNESS! My 7 year old dog's thyroid went bonkers last year, when he was 6-1/2 years old, and he is on thyroid medicine for the rest of his life now. I used Frontline on him for his entire life. Now I have to wonder...

I now know why my dogs fur fell out where I applied the flea treatments. I decided since DE worked so well for mites on the chickens, I tried it on my dog and it worked fairly well for the fleas on her too. I switched her to Organix dog food, which made a big difference in her overall health. She no longer shares her food with the chickens, she didn't mind if they ate her food when she was given ProPlan.

Since your cat likes dry food, Organix makes an indoor adult feline food.
I buy mine at whole foods and they carry it at Petco now.

Pollux the Cat asked "Can't you do something for my fat and lazy cat friends who need to control their weight? And make sure it's tasty - they're very finicky!" Our answer: ORGANIX

To be real honest I haven't had much time to be around Julie today. I didn't give her anymore Benedry but I didn't see her licking. She might have been but it was such a busy day I wasn't aware. My breathing still is labored and dh still has the rash. I will have more time tomorrow to assess this. Thanks for asking though.

Has anything else changed in the house? Other new animal, carpet? My cat actually did the same thing. After a vet visit we figured out it was nerves from allergy. We wormed him, put him on antibiotics, and an allergy medicine. He kept us awake too - finally after we realized it was allergies he turned out to get a new fresh coat and has been fine ever since. Not on any meds now. It was hard as he kept us awake too but we loved him so we worked through it.

Just that we had an addition built. Nothing else new. She is the type of cat that would get stressed real easy. She's always been a bit odd that way. When we first got her we had a bilevel home and she spent the first month by herself on the lower level most of the time. Now she is extremely attached to us......too much so in a way. I can't get her out of our room at night and inevitably she can be found sleeping in our bed at times throughout the night......hence the labored breathing ( me ) and rash (DH).

If friends come over she makes a beeline to our room and won't come out. So, I could envision her being stressed. Fortunately, they finished the addition today so I can monitor her for that.

Could she have gotten any dust from the construction on her? New paint and carpet in the addition? Hopefully she will calm down now. Might be something from the construction of the addition that set her off, and your breathing problems and dh's rash. Hopefully this could all be something as simple as some construction dust got in her fur. Hope everyone is back to normal soon.

Well I don't know how to explain this but all I did was give Julie a half a benedryl twice on Wed. and I haven't seen her licking at all since.

Wonder what's up with that?
