She is still alive this morning. But obivously more blind. Got her to eat a little scrambled eggs, but mostly she pecked at air. Put her back on tylan 50, dipped her beak in water but she did not drink. Cutting up some watermelon now to try and get fluid in her.

You know I looked at all those different ailments and none fit. I would think Merecks, but she has no paralysis, she is a little bit drunk like when she walks but I think its because she can't see.
I was able to get a good amount of watermelon in her so at least she has that fluid in her. She is keeping one eye closed now. To look in her eyes there is nothing cloudy or puffy or any way sick looking.
I'm thinking she is lacking something, she is getting polyvisol and anything I can get her to eat.
She pooped for me this morning and it was florescent green and watery. I'm hoping the color is from the polyvisol. No other chickens have any symptoms at this point.
It seems like a lot of people are having similar issues right now, I wonder what is going on??

My Brahma did fluorescent green poop - almost looked like there was some kind of material in it, but I've never seen a plant quite that color. Might be a clue.

She also started closing her eyes toward the end. I think they just get tired of fighting whatever it is

Well she is still alive and actually more alert this evening. I got some yogurt,applesauce,cheese and banana in her. I mixed it up real good then let it get room temperature. She ate alot compared to earlier in the day. When I gave her her vitamins she fought me pretty good so maybe she is stronger. I tested her eye reflex, she did not blink when I got close to her eye on the left side and she did blink when I got real close on her other eye. I let her out to walk around and she was able to walk and fluff her feathers she walked right back in the barn to her crate. For the first time in days she was able to reach the ground and peck at it, not able to pick up food but at least she hit the ground and not the air.
I am a bit encouraged by this but every time I go down there I do expect her to be gone. Still no other signs of sickness in any other birds. Every time I let her walk around I expect some paralysis then I would guess Merecks but not as of yet.

I am glad she is a bit perkier tonight.

Generally, bright green poop means that little to no food is getting into her system and she is starving.


I have no idea what it could possibly be............is it possible that she could have picked up a nail some how?


How does her breathing sound? Does she breathe normal or short? (thinking maybe fluid build up in the body cavity)





If she was my girl, I would only feed her a high protein diet - scrambled eggs are good and easy to digest; her own pellets soaked in water are really good for her. Without protein her muscles are being used up to support her organs.


The foods you are feed, while good you are getting something into her, are not enough to support her muscle maintenance. I know you are worried about keeping her hydrated - the soaked pellets will help with that. You can even try offering her a raw egg - see if she will drink it - the bright yellow of the yolk should stimulate her to want to clean the egg up.


I feed my flock a daily treat of soaked pellets - in our dry desert heat, I want to be sure that they are taking in enough water - plus everyone in my flock loves it.

She is still with us this morning!!

There is a possibility that she picked up a nail, she does free range. This morning she had solid poop in the crate still bright green. As far as breathing when she is sleeping I can see her body move up and down. There is no panting or open mouth breathing.
I have tried giving her regular crumbles, mixed with yogurt, applesauce etc.. and she won't touch it. I also tried scrambled eggs last night and she wouldn't eat that, but she went after my yogurt mix. I'm headed to TSC this morning and I'll get some calf mana see if I add that to her food if that will help. I have even tried lunch meat, I'll try again today with high protein food.

Any ideas why she can't see??

So glad to hear she's hanging in there! She is so lucky to have you on her side!

She is still with us, though both eyes stay closed most of the time and one eye has started to swell. Still no respitory symptoms it is getting harder to get her to eat, though I believe she has gained a little weight. She stays standing most of the time. I am thinking of giving her some banamine to see if that helps her at all.

Any ideas opinions???
