Very small coop ideas?

I used to have a coop underneath my sons' play structure, in an area that some would use for a sand box (we never did). It was great, except for the bumped noggin whenever I went in to clean or catch chickens or ...

Here are my small ones.

There are doors that open in the back. I can get inside to clean it out.

since you're looking for small, mine is 4.5X4.5 coop the run is about 5.5 wide X 7 long. I used a recovered shipping crate frame re-inforced and plyboard tacked on for the coop, and 4X4's and 1X4's for the bottom frame of the run and then PVC pipe and furring strips (1X2 and 1X3's) for extra stability and tacking wire to it. It all stands about 4.5 foot tall as well, my 5 yr old jumps in and out easily for collecting eggs at moment till I build on nestboxes outside of it, (the silkies don't mind at all, they use the floor under the next boxes instead of the boxes that are 8" off the ground

(more pics on BYC page - must update it tomorrow! )
you could also go for a raised coop about 2 ft off the ground, and make it long and just have the run underneath it! Check out the coop pages and look under "small coops" lots of good ideas there for using space and being decorative.

If your trying to be descrete from neighbors make one, paint it green or grey and white and hang a bunch of planters full of vines from it, they shouldn't complain if it looks nice, doesn't smell, and looks more like a strange cute shed than a chicken coop

My inlas have an a frame set up, the floor Is 3x5 its raised of the ground and underneath servs as a covered run,
they range in the yard during the day as well, their is a roost pole that runs the full legth of the coop, with a nest box at one end the loop door is at the other end In floor.it can be moved around the yard.one side is hinged so you can open it for cleaning and gathering eggs it is a very non invasive coop

I built the catawabe convertable coop. Side panels all come off for easy cleaning. I can move it around the yard to save the lawn and offer new grass. My chickens are safe inside - holds 4 chickens. I added extra panels that come off near the bottom because my chickens were small and I had the neighborhood dogs checking them out as well as a red shoulder hawk eyeing them too - None of them hurt my chicks and the chicks are now adults and fine. I cost about 113.00 to build. I suppose you could disguise it better than I did and make it look like a planting bench maybe? or paint composter on the side maybe. I don't have to disguise it but everyone who sees it doesn't realize it is a chicken coop until they see the chickens - mine go into a run everyday adjacent to the coop.

There are so very many ways to coop your chickens.

Enjoy
Caroline
