We have had chickens for many years. the hard part is we always get them in batches, several at a time each year. unfortunately they tend to pass away around the same time. We have a new batch of hens, and a rooster. He was a straight run bantam so not worried. the last time we had a rooster he was a huge Brahma, at 6 months he was 14.2lbs. anyhow back to the eggs. so one hen laid her first few eggs. amazing. light brown and heavily speckled. is this a beging phase or how the eggs will be from now on? We have had many hens that lay all kinds of eggs but these are uber cool. on the right is the leghorn egg, left is what is supposed to be a red sex link. they just started laying. about 7 months old

That's not a normal color for an egg, so I would assume it's a glitch, and the eggs will eventually go back to a plain dark brown, but you never know.

I would say it's a learning egg! I get speckled eggs when my ladies first start laying, right now I have 1 that's laying brown with purple speckles and I have a broken EE. She no longer layer blueish green eggs but solid white, starter 2ND year laying this way. They eventually get it correct!
