Hello,
My 2 Rhode Island Red Chickens who are about 20 weeks old, are very thin. I have 12 hens and a rooster, and only my two rhode island reds are so thin...not sure if this is coincidence or not. I have noticed they have been on the thinner side for about 2 months now, but i just picked one up the other day and it was really skinny. I was thinking they could have worms or a crop problem, but not sure. Here are the symptoms:
*Wings always at half mask
*Isolation form the flock
*Sometimes looks drowsy
*Looks sad all the time

I don't know anything about treating anything, so whatever suggestions you have, can you please include instructions to fix? Thank you so much!

Lucy

rhode island reds are usually thin at that age anyways. Holding of the wings can be caused by hot weather, Is it hot where you are ?
Are you noticing them panting ?

Yes, it's been getting in the 90-100 degrees F here. I've just noticed that they are really thin compared to all the other hens their age, is it normal for them to be smaller than others in the beginning?

Yes it’s completely Normal. Rhode Island reds are thin in general at that age.

As for the heat, is it possible that you could place an electric fan in their run ? You could also put ice in their water to prevent them from getting too hot.

I'l try those tips, thanks! If they could possibly have worms however, how would I know and how would Itreat that?

Buy a bottle of Wazine at a feed store and mix it in the water for all your birds to drink. Put out the treated water for them to drink before letting them out of the coop first thing in the morning. Ensure there are no other sources of water for them to drink during the day. Then after they go to roost for the night, discard the treated water and provide regular fresh water for them to drink the next day. Repeat again in 4 weeks.
Wazine dosage is one ounce per gallon of water.
