Cocci runs rampant in our soil, as hot and moist as it is in the summertime. I don't feed the medicated to broody raised chicks - they get "vaccinated" by being exposed to the aduts droppings, but I do to the brooder raised ones.
I've had tried to raise Dragon and Harley as a broody would, but they are still terrified of anything that isn't their regular feed. I placed a live cricket that I found the other night in their brooder. They spent the rest of the night as far away from that cricket as they could get.
Sour, I tried moistening their food awhile back, but got the same reaction I got with the cricket. I do have to wipe Dragon's top beak off at least twice a day. She gets food stuck to it alot.
