Very unusual chick, Guinea / chicken hybrid!!

They are close to a year old now and doing well. I've spoken to and read online hybrids living long and healthy lives well into double digits!

By the sounds of it the hybrid has filled out recently, it's still growing. Just juvenile.

However in the event that it does die soon, or really whenever it dies, I'd like to suggest donating the body to a lab for research, perhaps asking while it's still alive if they're interested in it so you don't waste time --- perhaps they can find out why they die young?

Best wishes.

They wouldn't research a hybrid not worth the time wasted. Some people just force the cross breed fowls to breed again in tinny dirty cages so they replace with more. I feel sorry for them really!

Hybrids can have uses for all manner of things... Commercial, economical, for genetic research, etc. I don't doubt there would be some researchers somewhere keen on it.

Interesting that you've heard they can live long lives, Bemba, all I'd ever heard was that basically as a rule they die around a year or two. Always the exception to the rule though, isn't there?

Best wishes.

more pictures, less death talk!
