Vet Costs

We have only 1 vet that cares for chickens and they are pretty reasonable. When my roo got sick it was only 64.00 but no antibotixs cause I had already started him on Duramycin and she said that was good and to keep it up. DD had to take her Rats in they had Pneumonia and 4 of them didnt make it cost her 500.00 but that was mostly for 2 different kinds of antibotics and 2 had to be put down. She had to treat 12. I have found that most of the time its the cost of the medicine thats more expensive than the treatment.

Shop around for a vet and the best prices. Makes calls on Tuesday thru Thursday. Mondays are full of emergencies from the weekend and Fridays no one wants to do their job because they are thinking about the weekend.

Find a vet before one is needed.

Do you guys charge $300 to have an old sick dying dog put down - not counting "disposal fees"? No ones pointing fingers at all vets - just the ones that go nuts so to speak because they know people either choose them or drive an hour over into the next town for treatment of their animals(the vet office in question is FILTHY too with almost none of the equipment mentioned - they even send people to get spays/neuters done in town since they aren't equipped for any operations).

I'd kill to have an office like yours out here really. But not everyone has that fortune(few!). There's no need to go all defensive... it's just to some folks even seeing a doctor for /themselves/ is a luxury they can't afford. Not to mention the fact VERY FEW vets are actually certified to deal with birds in any way shape or form... but sure will give it a try anyway.

I know this is years later, however I called to get my roosters nails trimmed. Very long, feathery feet. I had no idea they were long and wanted the vet to trim. They told me that he needs his wellness check up, if they do nails......$70.00. Unreal. I have been putting off going to the doctor, because my cost is $35 - $50.
