Vet is stumped! Why are my hens having so much trouble??

I was in tears with how uncomfortable she looked & the way she was pushing, thinking the worst was happening, then this was laying on the floor! It’s a normal size, looks normal inside when I hold I up to the light. She’s closing her eyes now, but I imagine she’s been working on it for a while & it’s exhausting!!

Maybe she isn’t used to laying a normal hard shelled egg and that’s why she looked uncomfortable.

That could be. She used to be a super reliable layer, but hasn’t been for months. I’m so so happy to know she isn’t backed up!! I mean I was so upset at the look of her. And then instant relief (& surprise) when I saw that egg!

But it feels like that would add some resistance to its movement also. She was closing her eyes off & on afterward, but I imagine she’s been working on it for a while & it’s exhausting!!

That is a great sign! Keep doing what you're doing!

Yeah I could tell she was relieved, then exhausted. Poor thing! Might do the calcium twice a day.

I can’t believe it!! A real egg! Misshapen, but calcified! She’s been in my bathroom in the dark & is still laying. Wouldn’t you say she’s ready to go back outside? I don’t want to jump the gun, she’s just aching to get outta that kennel.
