Vet is stumped! Why are my hens having so much trouble??

Once/day for 10 days. And she does Not like it. It tastes like it smells. :(
It is nasty tasting. The dose is very different than what my vets have prescribed, but maybe they have a reason. I think this is one of those cases where you need to trust your vet and do what they tell you to do.

Okay thank you! I have a check with our regular vet for one of the dogs Tuesday so I’ll ask. Last time he had her on the baytril for longer than 10 days.

My regular vet is back! He asked if we were on antibiotics & meloxicam. Planning to go in early & get the meloxicam. Going in later tomorrow morning with the dog so hopefully he will have more ideas!!
Without sounding too obnoxious, can you find a way to ask him why he chose the Baytril dose? What I mean by that is don't say so and so on BYC said this or that, lol, 'cause that will probably make him mad. They hate forums!

Hahaha!! I definitely get what you’re saying. I have an excellent relationship/friendship with my vet!!! Him & his wife are literally two of the kindest people I’ve ever met. I actually planned on asking him if we should/could up the dosage or use something stronger bc I want to give this thing all we’ve got!

Update: Okay, so we started on meloxicam today, 0.9cc of 1.5mg/ml oral. We are sticking with the .75 dose of baytril for now to see how the meloxicam helps, but we are doing it for 14 days instead of just 10. I imagine if something doesn’t improve, we will up the dose or try something different. Think healthy thoughts for us!!

I was in tears with how uncomfortable she looked & the way she was pushing, thinking the worst was happening, then this was laying on the floor! It’s a normal size, looks normal inside when I hold I up to the light. It’s soft, but has some grit to it, like she’s was trying to calcify it. But it feels like that would add some resistance to its movement also. She was closing her eyes off & on afterward, but I imagine she’s been working on it for a while & it’s exhausting!!
