Vet Question

LOL!! That was my thinking! My dh asked "how much is this going to cost?" I replied, "Don't know, don't care." That is why we have a credit card for emergencies!

Once I get through this hurdle, I have to deal with the heat restriction. Its May through Sept and we leave between that. I am going to go bonkers

I feel with ya. I moved from Ky to Fl in june, whewww hot and we moved from Fl to Ohio in feb. Left fl at 75-80F and got here it was 10F. My little one wanted to move back after 30 seconds. I had to leave my cat down there. He was a outside cat by own choice and its too cold for that out here plus we live a block from the interstate.too danferous. So Tigger is keeping a friends barn anole free.

Sometimes us military wives has to bend things a bit to make them work for us. We are good at that.

I have a Marine wife pal, and she is taking a dog she adopted from me to Japan sometime this year. I asked her about quarantine and she said as long as they stay on base there was no quarantine required. Don't know if this helps, good luck!

I understand you wanting to do this..but I really dont think the vet shoud do it for you. if they happend to find out the vet would be out of a job and license..I know my vet wouldnt do that..she might if it was from one state to another, but not to a different country..

But what does the rabies shot have to do with the microchipping? That's the part I don't get.

That is MAJORLY ILLEGAL! I'm talking lose your veterinary license illegal! Medical records are considered legal documents. I understand you wanting to take your dog with you, but there is no way any upstanding vet would backdate paperwork. Maybe you could leave the doggie with someone here until the time is up and then have him sent over.

How long is the quarantine period? It doesn't seem like it should be all that long even if your doggy does have to be quarantined. Horses and such that are imported have to have that done too...

I am not exactly sure what the microchipping has to do with the rabies. the instructions state: if dog isn't microchipped, it must get microchipped and two rabies vaccinations after the chipping. The dog has had rabies vaccs. but no microchip so they don't "count" according to the japanese government. I could be reading the directions wrong. here are the links with the info:

Oh and I asked the vet but I don't think she done it. All the dates are correct. I didn't want her to get in trouble.

Oh, and I believe the quarantine is 210 days if the dog doesnt have the microchip to begin with and 180 if they just need the rabies. But, I could be wrong. So many things to plan, I couldn't sleep last night and my brain is fried. Thank you for all your replies.

Will you be living on base? The way I read it, quarantine can be accomplished at your home if you're in base housing. I hope you work it out and get to enjoy Japan.

Animal certifications are legal documents. Your vet could lose his/her license for falsifying the document. Not to say that they won't necessarily do it, but just be prepared for that response.

I'm sure the microchip comes into it, because that's the proof that this particular dog has had both vaccinations. Otherwise, it's just taking a person's word that this particular dog was vaccinated. With a microchip in the dog, the vet can scan the dog when it comes in for it's vaccination and document that this exact dog was vaccinated. When this dog arrives in Japan with it's documentation, it can be scanned and they will know that it has had it's vaccinations. That's probably why the requirements were written that way.

I wonder if quarantine could be shortened, if you're just shy of the 210 days? Maybe there's a provision for that. It wouldn't hurt to ask.
