I live in farm country, so you would think that there would be some vets around here that treat chickens. I swear every other yard has birds running around. Nope.. At one point in, time not too long ago, I called my vets office because I had a chicken with bumblefoot. Fairly common ailment for birds yeah? I was told that no one in the office knew what that was, andthey would call back after doing some research. At that point I did my own research. Set up a makeshift operating room and performed the surgery to remove the kernel myself. Then dressed the wound and do all her post op care. Now imagine how much that vets office could have made off of me that day. But dont you worry because the same vets office charged me $100 for 3 oz of Corid 9.6%. Ugh...day in the life of a chicken mamma...

Wow.... $100???

I would have never found my farm vet if it wasn't for the local extension office. I lost a bird and called them about where I might get a necropsy. They directed me to a vet who treats poultry and works with the local farms and ag. That's not to say they wouldn't have tried to charge $100 for corid also....

The vet in my town used to deal with farm animals as well, but recently due to some folks retiring, they took equine, etc off the listing. Luckily, I happened to spot on Google that someone else in my town started a farm animal vet very close by (thank goodness!). I haven't had to utilize them, but I am glad they are there, hopefully it lasts.
