Viable treatment for Marek's Disease.

Thank you for sharing. What I have on its way is 90% Baicalin in capsules - each capsule contains 250mg of baicalin.
I figure I can take the capsule apart to give a smaller dose to each hen but I had no idea how small or how large a dose was appropriate.
Just a heads up, you can give a chicken a capsule. The gelatin is actually good for feather growth. Especially during molt.

BTW dosage for an ailing chook is 425mg.

Thanks. Nobody ailing yet. Just lost one hen to a very large tumor and only have one unvaccinated hen so I thought I might try this as preventative for her.

If you're going for prophylactic, it's 200mg per kg of feed. You just mix it in.

I put a bit of sesame seed oil in to make it stick. I know it's bougie, but I got empty nest syndrome, my husband is already spoiled and my critters are expected to pick up the slack.

Well, I'm sad to report that Rogue passed this afternoon.

We've had 100°+ Temps the last couple of days and Rouge decided to not participate in the heat wave. Opting instead to enjoy the a/c in the front room. I let her.

I noticed last night her comb was extremely pale, almost white. This morning, she ate well and was drinking but she seemed to be having difficulty walking. Her head was a bit bobbley. My thought was wryneck might be setting in. Her last dose was last night. I did dose her again. But I knew she was declining rapidly. She leaped of the chook nook to avoid a randy rooster. She didn't land well. I held her until she passed 2 hours later. Other than that final death spasm, it was very peaceful.

I have another hen with Marek's, I am amplifying the treatment to extend twice daily for 30 days. Clearly lowering dosage once symptoms cleared wasn't a good idea. Rogue was fully vaccinated. This hen; Bea is not. She is a Red Starlink we got from TSC. She's already partially blind from a dog attack in her adolescents, so she's already heavily monitored and hand fed.
I’m sorry to hear that about Rogue.☹️ I am so thankful for your research on this as I have been giving the skullcap to Marsha and she has made great progress! Her gait is normal and she has pep in her step again.🥹 She is still thin though slowly gaining weight. I gave her two 500mg capsules mixed in a mash of feed and egg for a few days and now she shares this amount with the others. This little chicken was within a week or so of dying and I am truly amazed with how quickly it worked! I am talking within a couple of days I began noticing a difference! Its become a breakfast routine for all my silkies and I mix it in our big chicken’s feed a couple times a week, too. Thank you again!💕

I am so glad it helped. I lost most of my Silkies and my lovely little Sebright. Only now do I realize that my flock has been battling Marek's for over a year now and me with no clue because they were all vaccinated. I decided in the beginning that the Silkies are getting a big fat dose regularly, on top of what I put in the feed.

Mine have a dinner routine.

Keeping everyone updated. As previously noted, I lost Rogue.

Bea, my special needs hen developed the same lesion on her eye. Unfortunately it is the eye she still had some vision in. She is now completely blinded...I believe. She is also the most spoiled chicken on God's green earth. She has a small apartment with a special dining table, a personal hemp filled bed, mood lighting and she gets more lap time & personal attention than ALL of the other birds combined.

Bea is unvaccinated and has developed Marek's Disease. The lesion on her eye was complicated by Coryza. I treated with Oxytetracycline. It was stubborn and took 2 doses. But, her outlook is good. Because of the infection I've kept her on the Skullcap 3 times daily. Once the eye is clear, I will reduce her dosage.

Lucy, a vaccinated Cinnamon Queen had been limping for a while. Her feathers looked like she was halfway through a molt for about 6 months. She had developed Marek's Disease. I gave her the Skullcap 3 times a day for a week. She stopped limping. I felt like she was doing well. Her feathers filled in and she moved back into the coop on her own. A week later, she developed a slow crop. I thought it was an intestinal blockage. Turns out, it's her liver. She is a pig...overeating is her favorite sport. I returned her to inside care. Skullcap 2x daily for 3 days. Also boosted the dose of Milk Thistle. It's been a week and she's getting Skullcap and extra Milk Thistle once daily. Once her liver returns to normal, I will reduce her dosage to once weekly along with whatever she eats in the feed.

Nessa is mystery. Not sure what she is. She's RED, slim and has white earlobes. Her limp has returned. I will give her Skullcap 3x daily for 3 days and lower her dosage to once a week.

Finally there is Maureen. Maureen is a True Blue Whiting. She has stopped laying, her comb has gone pale, her butt is dirty (no gleet...just poop) and she had started looking less than healthy. Dull feathers, no spunk. I put her on the 425 mg dose for 3 days and she improved. Her dosage is once a week.

No new cases since I started the Skullcap in the daily feed. No new sudden deaths. My rooster who's wings were paralyzed has begun regaining mobility and his balance is greatly improved. He Received 10 days of Skullcap 3x daily and then just what he eats in the feed.

Feeling hopeful. Keep in mind, this is trial and error. Relapses have happened and this clearly requires a lot of follow up.

Yesterday I noticed my Red Silkie roo limping. He's my most recent acquisition from outside the flock.

I brought him in for observation. He's underweight and has abnormal breathing sounds. There's no visible injury to account for the limp. His liver feels fine. In hindsight, he doesn't eat the feed I've been dosing. It was only then that I remembered the farm he came from only feeds grain. He's not getting Skullcap in his diet.

Since it's not accute, I dosed him last night with the intention of dosing him daily for a month. In the meantime, I'm adding Skullcap to the scratch as well. I have 7 roosters. 4 of which are Bantams. They don't eat a lot of layer feed. Rookie mistake I suppose.

Alright, since you guys are following along on this trial and error mission, I should pass this along.

5 grams is physically a tiny amount and miixing it evenly into 50lbs of feed does zero for your confidence.

I ordered less potent all natural pure Chinese Skullcap powder at 14.6 % Baicalin to boost my confidence in dispersion.

Could you share a link to the product you got? Is it ground up root rather than concentrated extract?
