Vicious Rooster help please

I don't eat meat either. I just feed them to the fam. Carry a big stick with you and keep him out of your space. He goes in your space, he gets a wack. I don't let most roosters get within 10 feet of me. I also don't turn my back on them. They like to wait until you look away to go in for the kill. Another option is to keep him locked up so he can't get to you. Roosters go through hormonal phases where they are extra aggressive. He may calm down in the next 6 months if you practice keeping him out of your space, wacking, and not turning your back.
Thanks, I really do hope it’s a phase. He’s such a handsome boy and looks after the hens. The consolation I take from it is that if he can stand up to and injure me - what will he do to a potential predator!

I appreciate the fact that you are a vegetarian, but that should not keep you from managing your flock in a safe way. This bird is a danger not just to you but for anybody else who is around, and they can be very dangerous when aggressive. Like any abusive relationship, you should end this one for your sake, and for the safety of anybody else that may be exposed to this bird. I'm very sorry if you find this hard to take, but there is no training that you can give this bird that will ever make him reliable safe to be around.

carry a spray bottle of water . when he shows aggression, soak him good. after awhile you won't have to spray him, as long as he sees you have the bottle hanging from your pocket
In over 50 years of poultry, I have had only one rooster and one turkey tom that were aggressive.. I sold the tom and ate the chicken. they taste especially good ..

Until issue resolved, I suggest you were clothing that is tough enough to protect you when he attacks. There is likely a scared component too.

Lets see a picture of him and those spurs.
I’ve uploaded these for now - those were taken about 6 weeks ago

As hard as it may be he needs to go.

He nails you in the legs and hands.....a child would be getting nailed in the face.

It is not worth it to risk infection from an injury or a child losing an eye.

Nearly all roosters will opt for sounding the alarm and running away from predators not fighting a fox or other danger.

What I would do is cut the tip of those spurs to reduce the ouch factor when he flogs. That could be done with garden sheers. The will grow back they way I do it, but give some time. Will also increase your comfort with handling him.

His other weaponry (beak and wing claws) will still be a pain.

Lets see a video where you go out and he attacks. Get into his space if you must to get him going. Odds are you are past the point to see what sets him off, but it will give an impression on his style and degree of motivation. Make certain you are wearing protective clothing as I mentioned before. A big part of the adjustments will be in your behavior as well.

The attacking humans is not a good indicator of how effective he will be against a predator.

If kids around, then keep them away until issue resolved and then vet him when kids brought back in.

I have kids and a lot of roosters. There are some tricks to trade that limit discord.
Hi, there aren’t kids around. I live fairly remote with only 1 neighbour who also has no kids. Only adults between the two houses.
