Video chickens at -50f Alaska

Yeah piss ice chips hitting me in the face was fun.... I used a big shop proprane heater and just fired it up twice a day to warm it up and then hoped for body heat to keep it warmish. Insulation was pretty key. Horses do alot better in cold than Chickens but even chickens don't need as much heat as people tend to think. I lined a box with a thick down sleeping bag for the outdoor cat....

Two of those birds had to be culled because they were eating each other, it was way to tight in their. 3 birds was ok, but 5 was way to much

People around here talk of cold when it’s 50 above freezing.
You know it’s cold when the snow crunches beneath your feet!

It's a DRY cold, truly different than WET cold. I don't care what you do, sideways rain/wet cold cuts to the bone. People in Oregon think I'm nuts when I tell them I had an easier time staying warm in Alaska.....

As long as they are without a draft both are amazingly hardy.
I don't want to sound cruel, but my roller pigeons made last -30 winter with nothing more than a wooden box with straw to go in.

I'm putting them in the garage this winter in a special coop I'm building now.
It was way to cold!!!!

Thank you for the honest assessment. I withheld comment because I have no words for that kind of cold. Just does not compute.

Well i guess i know what to look forward to. We hit -35°F pretty much every winter. Was thinking i better insulate the coop. Now i am sure i will.

No Alaska for me..I have discussed this with hubby..I would become an alcoholic

When my hubby was in the service I told him I would follow him anywhere but Alaska. Lol
