I had no idea. I already use it for sunburns & bee stings. It doesn't fell very good at first but it does work wonders. I will have to try it as a tonic also.
i use the apple cider vinegar with the mother, much better for them and you. I find it in the organic foods isle. Just be sure to shake it up each time you use it.
Don't forget about using white distilled vinegar to clean. It is anti-microbial and non toxic. I scrub with castile soap and baking soda and wash with vinegar. Get things clean without harsh chemicals. I believe castile soap is also a disinfectant.
First off, I'm not busting on anyone, nor trying to start a fight. Just some random things I think about when I'm home alone and the power is out.
I use white vinegar to kill weeds that spring up in my driveway so a blanket statement like (non-toxic) fly's out the window, because it is a relative statement. (Non-toxic to What?). It's pretty darn toxic to centipede grass. 100% non-toxic to humans and animals.
Unless overdosed.
Anti-microbial is relative as well. That really depends on the concentration as well as the temp.. There are microbes that can live in almost anything. Vinegar is no exception. Non parasitic nematodes like "Vinegar eels" can live there as well, so please don't think for one second that nothing is living in your vinegar.
My general take on anything one adds to water... Anything one adds to water that costs more than (water) tends to lead one to keep the water in the pen with a false sense of security.
White vinegar kills weeds and most microbes due to its high acidity. If you remember from biology class, most bacterica do not like to live in a Ph level of 3. This is not some random information. It is been researched and documented.
As for being anti-microbial. The soap you use in the morning with a high Ph is anti-microbial. That is why you use it. Evaporation, UV rays as well as bleach and ethenal all kill bacteria, yeast and molds. Many things destroy microbes. Some of these are harmful to humans and other animals, while others are not.
Vinegar kills weeds also because of its acidity. Salt and dry condititions doo too. I do not recommend drinking vinegar straight or eating a large quantity of salt. In moderate amounts we do eat these products without harm.
Remember, as animals, we are far more complex then plants or bacteria. We have developed ways to efficently remove toxins from our systems. Also, we are much larger and a small amount of vinegar will not hurt us (or a chicken) but will hurt a plant.
As far as remembering biology class 30 years ago(for me), you are pretty much on the spot, but I would be hard pressed to tell you what I had for breakfast yesterday.
My main point is, that clean fresh water in a clean container beats any amount of chemicals added to the water.
