Vinegar, LOL

seminolewind, thanks for the idea ~ hanging them would be sweet! (er, sweet and sour?)

LoneCowboy, we have used both white and cider vinegar with similar results. I think we have both among the four traps we have outside right now.

Thanks for the info. Now I just need to buy a bottle of pop.....

I just went scavenging in the recyclable bin. Found one. With a hole in the bottom. Grrrrrr.....

I was super suprised that it worked. But then I remembered that I gave my chickens left over salad, and the flies were all over it.
I think I'm going to hang up more, too.

We haven't yet gotten any chickens (I'm trying to drag my husband away from the ratrods to build a coop for me.

) but we have this interesting bush in my front yard that I would swear could attract every fly within a 10 mile range. I have no idea what kind of bush it is, but it's coming up soon anyway to make room for a flowerbed. It's been kind of run over anyway, so I don't feel bad for pulling it up.

I like the idea of this type of fly trap because my 2 year old loves to get into things -- anything like the idea of spraying ants with Pam, or putting grits in their ant hills is welcome around here.
