Spread the boarders of my lawn with vinegar salt and dishwashing soap... To cut down on weedeating. Chickens are pecking around those areas a lot.. Any reason that is not a good idea?

The soap might be a bit harsh if ingested...could give them severe diarrhea.

The salt is bad for your dirt as well. It may sterilize it so nothing will EVER grow there, and poison earthworms as well as your chickens (it's my understanding that chickens are especially sensitive to salt). Remember, just because something seems "natural" does not mean that it's not a chemical with very real consequences.

A fairly cheap, non-chemical way to get rid of weeds is with heat... either lay black plastic on top of unwanted growth for several sunny days, or use a propane torch to just wilt the leaves.
