HI, I would like to know about vinyl flooring in coops. Wouldn't it be very slick even though you put straw or chips down for them to walk on ? I am new to this but I do know you have to have a rough medium for baby chicks or they will get spradle leg. I really like the clean look of vinyl so that is what I'll use if you all say so. Thanks

I used FRP boards (it has textures)on my floor & walls , they came in 4x8 boards and put 1-2" of pine shavings on it when they were young. Much easier to clean and no fume smell from vinyl floor( I use to sell vinyl floor and they smell chemical).
Now they are bigger I got couple inches of play sand and pine shavings on the floor which I top once in a while I clean overnight poop every morning and coop had no smell at all.

I use vinyl flooring. Have a few inches of wood shavings on top. Have never noticed the chickens slipping while walking in the coop. Make sure your edges are sealed tightly so that bugs can't hide there. Vinyl certainly makes the coop easy to clean. There are some paints that would make the coop easy to clean. You might want to look into those before you choose to go with vinyl.

I used a single sheet of heavy duty, foam backed vinyl and pine shavings and it is slippery, especially at first but I still like it after almost 2 years.

No seams for water leakage, protects the wooden floor and poops don't stick to it.

I used sheet vinyl flooring and I like it. It is really inexpensive, easy to install, and a breeze to clean. I used a thick bead of silicone caulk around the edges to seal them. After installing the flooring with vinyl flooring mastic, I did leave the coop wide open for a week to off-gas before adding chicks. I use about 1.5" of fine pine shavings on top and 3 week old chicks had no difficulty. I think the regular flake style shavings would have been harder for babies.

It is not difficult to tear through the vinyl layer to the porous backing if you use sharp implements to clean it or drag objects with sharp edges. If this happens, the only option is to replace the floor as the tears will absorb moisture and odors. The whole back of my coop opens and I use a kid-sized plastic snow shovel to remove the shavings. Rarely are droppings left on the floor. I do wash the coop down with vinegar and hose it out every few months to deep clean.

I use vinyl flooring also. I have mine cut into smaller mats about 3 feet by 4 feet wide and just friction fit shovel out the heavy stuff into a wheel barrow. empty the mats into the wheel barrow (hose off) and put it all into the compost pile. Easy Peasy.
