It's been said that the Royal Purple guineas look best in full sun and that the Violet guineas look best in shade. I could occasionally see some real nice color on my violet guineas but it was rare and hard to capture on film. I had even seen a photo on eBay and thought it must have been photoshopped because it was so blue. So, imagine my surprise when I moved my last remaining adult violet guinea hen into my chicken run which just happens to have a large shade cloth covering the majority of the run. Instantly my violet guinea hen has ideal color basically all the time. So, first, here is how she looks normally...grey with a slight purple cast over her entire body.
Now, here she is under the shade cloth. I have to apologize for the photos because not only did I use my cell phone but she just refused to sit still while I tried to photograph her. In real life the color is more purple than blue but in these photos she looks more blue than purple...but the color is just as intense!
