Violetsfeathers Flock

Sounds like your birds are doing fairly well I seem to be looseing my luck with chickend

Oh, what happened?
Ginger ripped her toenail off yesterday. Her Bumblefoot isn't getting any better. The cold is bothering her leg more (she's had a limp for two years) and all that is on the same foot.
Her and speckles will be six years old on March 5.

I think marshmallow layed an egg this morning. I've been keeping her in a pen but when other chickens jump in there she jumps out. This morning there were no chickens in her pen and she was by the nesting boxes. Raspberry was already sitting on the egg and it was spotted like most of marshmallows eggs are. Now that I think about it none of the other Cochins have layed speckles eggs before.
Anyway if it is marshmallows egg I will be REALLY happy. Spring just cannot get here soon enough for the chickens. Raspberry will not stay off the nest! When marshmallow hatched her chicks March 5th she had been broody since December 31. And it was on like a switch, raspberry was more gradual so I'm not sure of the exact day she went broody.
Raspberrys got you beat Marshmallow.

Ick. She is done molting but doesn't look great. Are all chickens that dirty but you can't tell because they're not white??? Resist the urge to give her a bath it'll only make her feathers worse...

I am trying to decide if I should break raspberry from being broody and hope she goes broody in the spring again, or if I should let her be broody and take her off the nest as often as I can tip spring
