I am right on the line between Louisa and Orange.Scared the $%$$% out of me .Everybody is alright .did some damage to my house though.Going to call the insurance company tomorrow .Bet they won't pay a dime though as they will call it an act o God.If I remember right they don't pay for earthquakes.I will keep my fingers crossed though. At least my family is alright and that's all that matters when the day is done.

I was worried about you! Houses can be fixed, so I am glad your family is safe.

Last night at around 1 I heard the roar again it stop really quick but all the males here slept right through it.Thankfully school is closed here for the next two weeks as Hayden is scared to death to go back.He is only 5.I told him I would take him back on the first day and stay with him to let him know it's safe .

We haven't felt any after-shocks up here in the Valley. Did you see the surveillance video at Martin's Market in Mineral of the quake throwing stuff off the shelves? I don't scare easily, but I would have been scared inside that store or the Food Lion. I saw where the schools were closed until Sept. 6 in some areas.

Augusta County's first day of school was yesterday. It shook our schools pretty hard, too. Our church just got a new pastor from North Carolina, with a young family. This was the first move since his children were born, so they uproot the kids and move six hours away from grandparents, family and friends, right before the oldest child's first day of school ever. They haven't been here long enough to make many friends, so it was going to be a tough first day of school. He spoke on Sunday about how nervous his son was and that he was probably even more nervous. We tried to reassure him that all would go well...then we have an earthquake! There were only two schools in the area that had to be evacuated, and one of them was his little boy's school. Caleb probably won't want to go back to school, either.

New to chickens this year - we're in King George County, VA (technically Dahlgren) - we hatched 5 White Leghorns who are six weeks old today. Brought them back in from their coop to ride out Irene. I have 3 others who are 2.5 weeks old in a brooder inside our house right now - 1 Ancona and 2 possible olive egger mutts. Getting ready to put all 8 outside starting next week when the brooder mates are 3 weeks old. This fall I have 24 silkie eggs scheduled to ship to us 9/19 and I'm hoping to have a few silkies to add to our small flock. My goal is to have one or two hens of each color egg for variety.

Also - what is a swap?

Hey Bobbie, a swap is where area breeders all get together and sell of excess stock. We're having a big one in Sharpsburg, MD on the first of October. http://mdpoultryswap.blogspot.com/

We
also welcome ANYTHING farm related at the swap so.. no telling what you could find. This Spring, we had someone selling canned preserves (state certified of course), local honey, bird houses and handmade planters, used feeders and equipment, reconditioned rabbit cages and poultry show cages, 50 gallon rain barrels, handmade baskets, and much more. We had people travel from PA, VA, WV, OH and even NY for our last one and some camped the night before. It's a lot of fun and a great way to keep money local

We are also endorsed by the Maryland Poultry Fanciers Association so you will see some of those members there selling more of the rarer and heritage breeds as well as lots of pet quality and show quality fowl. I hope to see some of you there. We tried to have a BYC VIP lounge at our Spring event but, the banner got lost in the mail..
