not sure if anyone's posted, but the Christiansburg TSC is having a swap this coming saturday, March 3 starting at 9am.

I'll be there with some assorted extras...

SS in Goochland has chicks! They are yellow and go cheep cheep!

THEY DO!? We live in Powhatan but just 5-10 min from the Goochland SS! I was told they weren't getting them until next week!

Does anyone know of a certified, reputable place that will process extra roos for a small fee? I'm by Staunton but would be willing to drive for something clean, safe, and humane. I don't have any birds I need processed now, but I am trying to plan for the rest of the year.

Oh - also - does anyone have comfrey that they'd be willing to divide for me? I am looking to exchange some gardening or cook books or hatching eggs, just barnyard mix or Easter Egger, for comfrey plants in trade.

I just joined BYC. I'm in Fauquier County. Been raising chickens for 30 years now. Currently have barred rocks, Salmon Favs, and Americanas. In March I'm getting NH Reds and Silver Wyandottes, both of which are new to me. I'm also hatching some of my own eggs.

I just took the egg turner out of one incubator and my daughter is loading up the other with favarolle eggs. She's determined to have a larger flock to choose from this summer, for her fair entries. Otherwise, I'd stop incubating for now...I started back in December, and I'm glad I did, because my two blue eggers have stopped laying (or have turned into the best egg hiders ever). I have chicks coming from the hatchery AND the incubator hatching w/in the same three days. Bad planning there...I am going to spend next week shifting flocks of different ages around to make room
I'll go look EOs up; never heard of them before!

Just went and looked up EOs. We had a Basque exchange student last year (she was a good sport about being out in the country instead of in a more populated place!) and so I looked up Basque livestock. The Basques saved a lot of breeds from extinction. So the EOs look very interesting!

I'm in Arlington- where we can't even have backyard chickens yet! I'm involved with a group called The Arlington Egg Project that is working to have the county ordinances modified to allow a limited number of backyard hens. Wish us luck!
