I actually finally decided to go to Gilmanor and had a great time! what a cool swap! very worth the trip just to see the chickens.

Met Maggiesdad and got two Maradunna Basque chicks from him and Ki4got and got a colored dorking chick from her. Along with some little orps for a friend who wants orps.

Unfortunately, when I walked in the house with the 7 chicks, the husband had a cow, but only 3 of the chicks were for me! He didn't speak to me for 3 hours. gagh. and I only got the three to replace chicks I had lost... sometimes, I swear. He has no IDEA how good I was and what I COULD have brought home. some of those bunny rabbits were adorable.

Drat! Why didn't you tell me your BYC handle!!

Now I can't remember a face to put to your avatar! Were you wearing a light green top?

I hope the chicks do well for you - I was afraid to uncover them because I had no way to warm them back up when they got chilled, and I didn't want to sell any chilled chicks... so I wound up bringing most all of them back.

That's great y'all have a cow, now - having fresh milk will be soo awesome! ...mmm butter and cheese, too!

oh!!! forgot to mention. we talked to the owner of gilman's farm & feed... don't remember his name. (k.i.forgot strikes again). the next Gilmanor will be September 21st. it's already on my list of things to do, and i suggest if you haven't had a chance, get there! it's great.

every year, it's the 1st saturday in may and 3rd saturday in september. so you can plan as far out as you want now. 8)

It's Joel, and he's a great guy. His efforts are a real plus for the chicken community here in VA.

Thank you, Joel!

I just have to add that as nice as it was to meet yall in person, I felt like SUCH A DWEEB calling and saying things like "Hi. Is this Maggiesdad? This is Canesisters. I'm supposed to pick up a roo. Where are you?"

My friend (who was there to shop for plants) kept cracking up at me. She said that she was NOT going to jail if I got caught while making one of my 'illicit, back-alley deals'..

My husband had a cow about the 1 day old chicks (2) that I bought. I had planned on buying more but had not informed him

At least everybody fits in at a swap! LOL Handing off chickens at grocery stores and skating rink parking lots definitely feels awkward. That's what I did to my DW - "Hey honey, take these pullets with you when you drop the kids off today, be on the lookout for a lady in a..." Whew! Talk about getting the stinkeye!!!

It was nice meeting you and thanks for being the middlechikkenperson for Stoney!

My first trip to Gilmanor and meeting lots of great folks. It was really great to talk with people who knew what they were talking about.

I had to laugh when I read Pysankigirl post above. My wife fussed at me for bringing home a cockerel! I was remarkably disciplined at Gilmanor. I had a specific shopping list and stuck to it. I got my black-based SFH cockerel from Bulldogma but did not find the blue wheaten and blue (BBS) ameraucanas that I was willing to take. So in spite of all the temptations at Gilmanor, I only brought one chicken home.

I am trying to convince her to go with me to Sharpsburg, MD for the Maryland Poultry Swap, http://www.mdpoultryswap.blogspot.com/ So we will see ... :)
My first trip too, was real nice to chat with you Hapless along with my two chicken friends. We had quite the group of us around Maggiesdad's set up

. We of course could not buy anything to bring home but sure was a great event and we enjoyed it very much!!
