Quote: oh man! I didn't know you were there. would have loved to meet you too. had some of your grand-chickies there too. LOL if you wandered, I was the one with the wooden brooders and broodies keeping babies warm.

Maggiesdad, I just wanted to say that the roo is settled in. He loves to be held and comes right to me to be picked up. My cat really wants to eat him though. He holds his own and doesn't get stressed by her antics.

The 17 year cicadas started emerging today. The chooks love 'em!

Now I need to teach Maggie how to catch them to take them to the girls.

Gonna be so much free protein buzzing around this spring...

I have not seen any emerge yet around me, but I look forward to the chicken feast that will occur when they start emerging!

Does anyone know if the Salem, VA (Lakeside Plaza I think) has a poultry swap and what day/time??
there are no feed stores anywhere near lakeside plaza, so no, there isn't a poultry swap there.

your options are Roanoke TSC (near gander mountain and camping world off exit 150) on the 3rd Saturday of each month and the Christiansburg TSC off exit 118 (B I think) on the 1st Saturday each month.

the 4th Saturday is also rocky mount TSC, and the Roanoke/Troutville southern states has talked about one that weekend too, but don't know if they ever started or not.

all of the swaps usually run from 8am to noon, or so. some people get there a bit earlier, some stay a bit later...

I'll be at the Roanoke TSC on the 18th for sure.

The last 48 hours we have been drenched! the river is up about 8 feet. Thankful that we are on the top of a steep hill! my floors are covered in mud, my poor chickens look bedraggled and the goats won't leave their house. Thunder has scared the wits out of our one dog...170lbs of quivering panic. poor thing. but you cant help but laugh.

The chickens do like the worms that have surfaced, though...lots of great protein today.

Anyone going to the fredricksburg swap this weekend?

I think we will be going and bringing Buff Orpington chicks I think all are pullets 6 weeks old, possibly a Araucana Rumpless Bantam trio, some juvis, Buff orpington ducks, and maybe some chicks depending on weather. And if anyone is interested in a pure blue Ameraucana rooster Show Quality, i will bring him also.
