Virginia

Hi everyone!

I just joined today, and I'm in Chesapeake, VA, which is in the southeastern part of the state. Anyone else nearby?

Here's a question. After every comment some people have information about what birds they are working with or personal stuff; ie family etc. Where do I put that information about myself?

Oh to be more specific I am looking for highest egg output. I don't have a real preference for white/brown. That is one comprehensive list you linked. I am curious why they noted the austrolap as not a good choice for egg laying based on the other notes and what I read on a different guide. Any clue why they don't recommend  it for egg laying primarily?

I have a Black Australorpe roo over a bunch of red sex links hens and the egg production is amazing. The red sex links have laid for me throughout the winter and usually lay an egg daily, except when molting. The egg size is very large and light brown/tan.

I like other breeds for breeding, but for eggs, the red sex link has been great, and usually sold in Tractor Supply Co during Chicken Days, beginning in March, I think.

Don't need the roo, but he is an amazing roo and protects his flock. I let them free range at times.

Thanks! I just got my first chicks a few days ago from Tractor Supply. They are buff Brahmas. I have 6, and I'm starting to think that there's a male in the group.

If so, I'll have to rehome him, since I can't keep roosters in this area. Hopefully he's the only one.

I'm really enjoying my chicks and reading the posts and information here.

I'm newer to BYC, I joined in January. I just got my first chickens this past weekend and I'll be getting my first chicks this weekened. I'm located in the Northern Virginia area (Prince William County) anyone near by?

Henrico aka Richmond here.. Not entirely close but near neighbors. Welcome, I'm newer as well!

Aren't they fun? I got 6 from a local Southern States last Thursday. I have 12 older girls that have been laying, 3 that are 18 weeks old and just went in with the older ones and two roosters. I love getting new babies though.
