HI - I LIVE ON A WET n WILD SCOTTISH ISLAND

LOVIN' MY PEKIN BANTAMS

Had a little trouble with my new Cockerel - he does not know how to mate.
He does not know what to do. He does the 'wing out' business, runs round her in circles, grabs her by the back of the neck
then stands looking at her.....................................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
He's 10/11 months old.

Then again, he's only got wee legs.

I once knew two lasses from the Orkneys that told some mighty funny tales about the chickens and the wind there...

They were twins, played a mean guitar and fiddle.

Welcome to the Virginia thread!

Indeed! Jennifer and Hazel - they were wonderful entertainers! We saw them at a coffeehouse in Charlottesville, Virginia.

A suggestion for your problem with the cockerel that can't quite get the hang of it... and oldtimer recommended caging the problem boy next to a pen with an experienced cock that's covering hens. After the week put the cockerel back with his girls. (I don't know if it works or not, just that other folks have had the same problem!)

Hi - I'm actually from the Orkney's myself but moved away a long time ago.
I still follow what's going on up there. But the girls are very popular and well known.

Sadly I have no other cockerel. I sold my precious Bounty to make way for this Show Boy. I plan to breed with him.
Today he nearly made it but my other Blue Pekin hen jumped up and knocked him off just as he was balanced. She then hounded him and started jumping on top of my other Blue hen - unbelievable. It was chaos. Seen nothing like it.

I think that tomorrow morning I shall close one Blue Pekin in her sleeping quarters - just for 30 minutes so that he gets a little peace with the other.
At present my Romeo is in with Juliet (2 black pekins - show quality) - I bought them in January.
He goes bonkers trying to 'do the busines' with Juliet and it has come to the stage that she does not want to come out of their sleeping quarters because she knows that the 'chase awaits'.

Hi neighbor! I'm in Pittsylvania Co. too. I have Silkies and a beautiful English Cuckoo Orpington roo. I have BBS English Orp eggs coming in March. I love hatching. My silkies have been laying all Winter. If you're ever interested in any Silkie chicks, let me know!

hello not sure where you getting your feed but I know someone that has good deal on feed. it is mill ground wheat oats and corn he sells it in a 80 pound bag. I get this feed then mix in layer pellets with it.

just a wild idea but I been wondering if some of us Virginia people could maybe form a coop or maybe put our eggs together for some sort of market.
