I wish they would do something about the overpopulation of whitetail deer in va. tired of mowing them over with the ford a few chick pics from today;
They are trying to help with over population....they are working on passing a law to allow hunting on sunday. Also, my husband is part of a few hunting clubs (that are strickly controlled to help with over population) but as with anything there's always politics and those that don't want harmless animals killed. Fairfax county is trying to pass some crazy law where they catch deer and Castrate them and then re-lease them back into the wild (so they can't make babies)....all to control the population. Each "surgery" cost $1000....well worth it! (*Sarcasm*) All of this to please those that don't agree with hunting. Ok....done with the "rant" or sharing....whatever you want to call it.

The law is already passed and signed - effective 7/1/14 - Its only on private land with written permission and no hunting with hounds on Sunday.

Yes terrible waste of taxpayer money when they could harvest and donate to food bank. Won't change a thing as a buck will travel a long way to breed and can breed a lot of does. JIMHO

oh I agree with hunting. I am also for hunting with hounds within reason. when you finish your hunt, pick up your dogs. don't leave them for days. keep them off my land and away from my chickens and you can keep your hounds. if they are up here chasing and killing my chickens then you will never see your hound again. sunday hunting? I don't like it. another reason for people to stay out of church. I think it should be after 1:00 pm because I don't want to hear gunshots on sunday morning. the solution is declaring the whitetail deer a nuisance species and have open season until the population gets down to more manageable levels. I only take one a year but am sure others would kill as many as they could.

Yes, one time a was watching the news and it was talking about how much tax payer money was 'sent to other places' which is AKA for 'wasted'. And they spent like 1 million dollars on research for ants!!

other states have worked on things that I think would be better practices...

they need to leave the bucks alone so the strongest and most able bucks DO continue the breeding, but there's a vaccine they can give does that basically causes an immune response to the semen, so they don't get pregnant.

it's being used in a few wild horse populations successfully to control over breeding in order to maintain smaller herds that can stay viable for a long time.

it's not permanent, but a lot more cost effective than snipping a handful of bucks.

and sunday hunting on private lands would be a good thing. YEAR ROUND! especially if those hunting are taking the meat for themselves to feed their families or donate it to charity organizations.

bow season for our area is already open from mid September (I think?) all the way thru first of april. hubby was going to do so much bow hunting. LOL I'm the only one that's shot a bolt from it so far. score one small doe that I had to track forever and a day, for her to drop dead 100 feet from the house (where I shot her in the first place!) I much prefer the rifle. *bang* thump. walk over and drag her to the tractor for cleaning.
