I want good egg layers that are docile and friendly (I have kids). I was thinking Buff Orphingtons and Black Americaunas. I know these do well in the winter but am concerned how they handle the hot, humid summer
I have Buff Orpingtons (hatchery stock) and they stopped laying altogether this winter, but now they are all laying (I think

). They are docile, good layers, kid friendly, and even my roosters dont flog or peck me. Orpingtons are a neat breed, if you ever want to there are lots of colors of Orpingtons too. Buff is just the most popular color. I'd say they are a very good breed to start with.

Hi everyone,
I am looking to move to Northern VA to be closer to my parents. They are in Bristow/Gainesville. My HB passed away and I am left out here alone with my 3 kids and my birds, dogs, and barn cat. I am looking to rent or rent-to-own a 3 or more bdrm farm house in the area. If anyone has any leads on a property near Bristow- could you please help me out? I would like to move ASAP. It must allow poultry and pets! barn/outbuildings a plus, the more space the better! I have checked a few on craigslist so far, but thought maybe-if I am lucky-word of mouth might be better. Just want to get back to life and do what I love! Thanks for reading. :)

Have you looked in Fauquier or Culpeper County? I don't known how close you want to be to your parents, but those two counties are a bit less expensive than Prince William County. Culpeper is about a 45 minute drive to Gainesville, and depending where in Fauquier, (Bealeton or Warrenton) it's about a 20 minute drive up the Rte 29 corridor. Good luck!!

They both do fine In the summer as long as you have shade And plenty of water. Both breeds are definitely winter hardy. My uncle had a Buff Orpington given to him from my Grandfather. She lived to be 14 or 15 Without a coop.

Who is going to the first Animal Swap of the year at TSC in Roanoke this morning?
It should be a big one from what I hear.
We had to put our JUNK YARD DOGS in tge house the wee hours of this morning. The BEAR are AWAKE. Last night. Correction all night long thr dogs were barking and I heard the growls and saw the shadows. Could not actually see the teeth of the bear but surely smelled something odd. They must be hungry. Around Ft chix the chicken house and dog kennels. I could not take it anymore around midnight. Dogs are locked up inside the house now. Those big dogs have never sounded so angry.
