Hello! Just joined the other day with my first 3 ladies. I'm in tip-top of Shenandoah County.
:welcomeNice to meet you! Hope you have fun learning and sharing here. Tell us more about yourself and your 3 ladies. Is this your first experience with raising chickens? Be sure to post pictures. We love pictures:love. Lots of knowledgeable people on here to answer any questions you might have.

:loveWelcome @AleciaJones ! Glad you joined and happy to have another voice on the VA board:) Yes, tell us more about you and your girls!
I’m in the northern va area and I have 3 big girls: Easter Egger, RIR and a lt Brahma. I also have 13:thchicks~ 8 blue birchen marans, 4 silkies and 1 cream legbar. I plan on only keeping 6 chicks which will put me at 9 (about 2 more than I prefer!) But they are adorable :love

These are my first three, and yes first time with chickens. Crowley is left, Cass is the front and Pot Pie is the little yellow in the back. They have funny personalities and I'm guessing Crowley is going to be the boss lady of the coop. Crowley and Cass ARE from Supernatural, and Pot Pie was chosen by my oldest.

I'm a homeschooling SAHM, former body piercer. Love canning, and playing Warcraft.

Crowley is a glutton, she LOVES eating. She also likes to shove the others around, pushing them out of the way to eat from the same little food dispenser hole instead of next to them. She can't quite get the roosting figured out but she's trying. I believe she's a week older than the other two.

This is Pot Pie with a wet bum after her morning wash. She has pasty butt every morning. I suspect it's how she's sleeping at night, as it doesn't stick during the day when she's up and moving.

Cass is the smarty pants, she's already figured out roosting on the sticks I placed in their brooder.

Up for discussion (FREE to pet home): 9 month old cockerel from Asian Black bin.

The good: he is AMAZING with our hens, constantly on guard as they free-range on 10 acres, tidbitting, etc. By the time we notice a hawk, the chickens are all under cover already.

The bad: he is after my kids (8, 5 and 3) pretty regularly. We've carried him around, hand fed him, held him, and after none of the above worked, caught him and pressed him to the ground. He just won't stop.

Anyone need an amazing rooster for a free-ranging flock, but doesn't have small children? I'll gladly drive him within a few hours away - we are in Warrenton, VA.

@chickengoggles I had good luck posting on Craigslist when I end up with roosters ~ I can’t have them in my city. And I’ve been told putting flyers up in places like Southern States is also a worthwhile effort. I would charge money on Craigslist to keep people honorable. Good luck! He’s a beauty:love

Thank you! I posted in Pet Chickens of VA, and someone is coming for him Saturday.
