Virginia

Hello and welcome! :welcome This is a great place to spend some time, meet some new ppl, learn fun things about raising chickens...or us a few things about raising chickens:). Tell us about yourself and your flock and post pictures! We love pictures! Hope you enjoy the site and all it has to offer.
Thank you for the warm welcome 😁 No flock just yet, hoping to have some babies in the next month or so, my husband and I have been tossing the idea around for a while now and have finally decided we are gonna go for it but I want to get the coop up and learn as much as I can before bringing them home. I will def. be sharing pics though as soon as we get them. I am super excited about starting this new adventure.

That's wonderful! Gosh, you'll find tons of info on here about coops, predator proofing your coop. and lots of info on the different breeds of chickens, with pictures of course. There is steep learning curve with raising chickens, but this site will really help with "flattening the curve". I can't believe I said that :th.

Soooo we kind of jumped the gun and got our babies yesterday before we got the coop finished but I just couldn’t wait, we found a local breeder with exactly what we wanted and couldn’t resist. If you are near the Hampton Roads area and looking for Lavender, Blue or Black Orpingtons look up Brickhouse Poultry on FB he is your guy, his flock is absolutely beautiful. He also has Ayam Cemanis and Swedish Flower hens but the Orpingtons are his thing. Anyways without further a due here are the little babes.

Hello Franklin Co. We're just south of you in Bassett, and my wife actually works in Franklin Co. We're new on here, so just cutting our teeth to this site.
:welcome Welcome, welcome, welcome! So glad to meet you. There is a wealth of information on this site and some truly wonderful, knowledgeable people here. Hope you stick around and get to know us. Are you new to raising chickens? Already have a flock? Fill us in on where you are in the wonderful, sometimes wacky world of backyard chicken raising. We love getting to know newbies:clap

We're not new to raising chickens, we did however take a break for a couple of years, but missed all the wonderful benefits of having them. We mainly have them for the fresh eggs, and also to teach our son a good work ethic and how to take care of things. We recently picked up 6 Black Australorps and one Lavender Orpington. We're just glad to have some chickens again :)

Hi, I moved to Virginia last year (near Culpepper) and we recently lost almost our entire flock (we think it was a fox) except for a lone survivor.

Her name is Fuzz, and she is kinda living in the house at the moment.
We plan on getting new chicks to start again and building them a new coop and run so we can predator-proof from the ground up and have them a little closer to the house.
I was wondering what everyone's favorite breeds are?
My mom wants chickens that are good layers, and she ends up buying whatever is available at Tractor Supply (Rhode Island Red, Sex-Links, Plymouth Rocks). While I just want a few little cochin bantams. I bought one from a feed store in PA when we lived there and she was the sweetest little hen.
