Well, my egg layer quit when we got snow! The girls are spending a lot of time in the coop, but no more eggs. This is the longest I've seen snow stick around since I moved back to VA from FL more than 10 yrs ago. The coldest I've ever seen it too. Calling for -2 Monday night. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm more than ready for temps at least above freezing!

I know not happy about this!! Three very cold nights coming and then maybe a reprieve??

I'm in northern Maryland, but I'm totally with you. I WANT MY FLIP-FLOPS BACK!

We saw snow in May here last year. Didn't last long but still...
The Spring equinox is the proverbial straw that "breaks the camel's back." Once that hits - May 20th, this year - Winter always has one last hurrah. Sometimes it's snow or ice. Sometimes it's just a really nasty cold snap. Sometimes it's a really bad windstorm, but that's all just Winter having a "Last Hurrah." My family calls it the "Arnold Schwarzenegger Effect." You know the line, I'm sure, "I'm leaving, but I'll be back!"

I claim this with confidence, because I've been counting the days til Spring since I first learned my numbers. As soon as someone asked my Father "How many days is it?" we looked up the equinox in the Farmers' Almanac (the pre-Google Google) and counted backwards, marking each day's number on the (gasp - paper) calendar.

From then on, we had to be prepared. He'd casually ask how many days were left. A quick response was expected and checking the calendar was cheating. Praise from my father was rare and worth earning, so we learned to do mental math on the fly - a valuable skill that many kids today find impossible. But the best part about the countdown was the tradition it started. Decades later, we still do it every year!

I love this story!
