Found a smashed egg on the floor of the coop

Not sure how it got there...
My nest boxes are a couple of those rubbermaid (type) totes. It's something like 8" from the bottom of the nest to the edge.. so it didn't 'fall' out. I couldn't tell for sure if there was egg-innards in the nest... or on the floor.? I'm really, really, really hoping that no one broke it on purpose. OR that anyone realized the yummy treat that came out of it.... There was a whole egg in the nest.. so maybe it was just some sort of weird accident?

Could one of your hens have laid it from the roost? (Was it below a roost?) Otherwise, look for rats, racoons, etc. They'll push an egg out of the nest to eat it.

Hi Everyone,

I have Light Sussex chickens. I currently have some extra roosters that will be 5 months old in early February if anyone wants one for $20--local pickup only. I'm in SWVA. The Rural Retreat Exit 60 of Interstate 81.

In the spring I hope to be selling hatching eggs.

I have to say these birds are getting big! I had some EE before and they were no where near this size at the same age. The larger roosters are getting too big for the door of the coup and they are not quite 5 months old. The specs on them say the roosters get up to 9 pounds.

Also they are much, much more friendly than the EE.

Hows it going, This is my first post here. I live in Suffolk VA and was wondering if anyone would know the best place to pick up some Barred Rock chicks in the next couple of months. Thank you for the advice, Justin Perry
