Virginia

what is this "swap" that you speak of?? We still need to get a coop set up so we're a few weeks off from needing hens but I want to get things rolling.
I've only been to one.. but as I understand it, a swap is a mostly informal gathering where folks bring their poultry (eggs, chicks, young or grown) to sell or trade them. You don't have to have birds to participate, but you will probably need something to transport your new birds home in. I believe they usually happen in feed store parking lots or in farm fields .... and they are FUN.

Ok there are a lot of pages to read, and I don't want to LOL

Soo....

I'm in Goochland County, Virginia, right at the northwestern edge, near Hadensville, Palmyra, and Kents Store.

Are there any other Virginians near me?

I had to see a specialist in Norther VA for my TMD. The pain comes from joint dislocation. Grinding, clenching, incorrect bite, slipping discs and deteriorating discs can all cause it. Hope you feel better soon! I was having migraines EVERY DAY from mine.

Is there anyone in Goochland County who could tell me the laws regarding raising chickens? I mean, I know I can raise them, but I'm wondering how many I can own, if I have to have a certain number of hens per rooster, and if I am allowed to have guineas roaming my property to keep the ticks down? I'd like to have a few guineas that are free to roam around my house and in the woods, but I don't know if I am allowed to do that. I tried to find laws pertaining to poultry on the county website, but I had no luck. I also did a google search, and came up empty. Can anyone tell me where I need to look?

Thank you!

Our land is zoned A1. We own (just closed on Dec. 27th and moved in the end of January), and have 8 1/2 mostly wooded acres. We have no HOA's, not in a development, although there are a few more homes on our private road.
