Introducing myself...a little birdy told me about this thread. (you know who you are)
I am into Dorkings and Barnevelders. And one of EVERYTHING ELSE for a laying flock.
I'm from Ruckersville and I think I am a chicken addict...starting to be a hatching addict.
Got a full incubator and a broody hen in the basement...Oy.

You are truly a master hatcher![]()

I may have to join that group, too. I havent started double layering my eggs in the bater yet, though.i don't hoard them! i just haven't eaten many of them... and there IS a reason why i'm part of the 'incubators anonymous' group...
Quote: lol i figured out recently, if you have an auto turner that's full, you can lay eggs on top of the others and they will turn some too. handy if you're doing rotating hatches and plan to move some to the hatcher soon but don't have room in the turner yet. LOL so i had 95 eggs where 84 would fit. but only for a few days. and i've got 36+ coming in in 2 weeks, should be here the day before the next batch goes to lockdown (put some sfh and my own mix in the hatcher this morning)...

Barnevelders are elegant and gentle. Their personality is good fit with the dorkings because no one gets picked on, but with a completely different "look."Welcome to the thread!
... bet I can guess who recruted another Dorking fan...
I don't know much about Barnevelders. What do you love about them?
Wow that is amazing!! Congratulationsok, how about an update... remember those old and possibly frozen eggs i was talking about yesterday? the ones i set but didn't expect to do much?
well, when i candled them on day 19, it looked like about half of what i'd put in the hatcher had quit already. (18 eggs went in out of 21 developing.)
well, as of last night, i had 10 chicks out, but one was kind of iffy looking, so stayed in the hatcher overnight. i didn't see any other pips. this morning, he was doing fine, so went into the brooder, along with 2 more buddies that surprised me.
this evening, there were 3 more hatched! but one is definately a HUGE ??? ... 2 of them are doing well, if still a bit wet, the third's head is hanging mostly upside down and backwards, his legs out backwards and feet balled into little fists... so unless he straightens out by morning he'll be sent away painlessly.
but still! that's 14 where i expected maybe 5 or 6. and even then, those first 5 or 6 hatched, were from eggs over a MONTH old before they even went IN the incubator !!!!
and a couple i think are even PURE dorks!
