well, by the time you posted, I was in bed for my 2 hour nap before leaving the house around o'dark thirty... actually more like o'dark fifteen (aka 12:15 am) met leigh in Roanoke around 1, got her stuff loaded up, organized, etc, gassed up and coffee'd up and on the road by about 2:30. got to Gilmanor at about 5:30 and had a great spot right near the main entrance!

hubby likes his name... think it might stick. LOL so 'chicken dinner' he will continue to be, tho not literally!

the girl I picked up from ridinshotgun is a puzzle... makes hen noises (that purring trill, kinda noise), has complete lacing all over her wings where a roo is usually solid, not laced, not quite as large as 'chicken dinner' but looks like she's growing some pointed saddle feathers...

if it's a 'shim', as long as I get fertile eggs, I don't care if 'shim' can't decide what to be.

yup. got to catch up briefly with ridinshotgun on the way home too, when I dropped off 2 chicks and picked up my blrw he got accidentally. LOL

good to see you MD! (and meet Maggie!) as well as Tony and wildhorseannie. Leigh and I drove up together and had a great time. I have no voice left today to talk with and i'm sore and stiff, but it was worth it. met a number of other people i'd sold birds to in the past. and, of all things, I'd hoped to pick up another red dorking roo from the guy my last one came from, and found out the guy in the tent next to us has the remainder of that flock! so when he gets some more cockerels hatching out, I'll be driving back up again to pick up a couple more. hopefully it won't be too long.

I had a great time at Gilmanor! Got to catch up with Glen, Karen, Leigh & meet Marcia (WIldhorse Annie). I picked up 4 SFH chicks from Karen & Leigh. I understand that two came from KYTinpusher which I am happy to get!

More colors and patterns!!! Many thanks to Leigh for some more SFH hatching eggs.

My big find at Gilmanor involved a couple from NC who were closing her chicken business in NC in preparation for a move to Maine. I got two lovely cream legbar chicks and some hatching eggs at a great price. While I am always excited to get another pullet, the colors on this little boy are very light which based on others' experience could lead to a true cream legbar rooster which everyone is working towards. Many thanks to Karen for pointing me in the direction of this couple.

For those not familiar, cream legbars are autosexing and breed true. The female is dark with chipmunk stripes and the male is muted colors with a white spot on the head upon hatching. Cream legbars also lay a medium blue egg.
