R.I.P. "Coal" Porter
We had another attack an hour ago. The fox jumped a hen in the side yard, ironically, 15 feet from the new chicken tractor I'm building for an electronet enclosure. Coal jumped to her defense and gave his life for his flock. The hen is rough, but may live. I'm ******...

It's hard to see the barring indicator dot on the yellow downed chicks. I just have to wait and see with my Basques, which are a barred red chicken.

If the parents were mixes to begin with you can get some crazy stuff! They will still cluck, lay eggs and taste like chicken...

on your pics, the first two are definitely cockerels. the others, you'd have to see the very top of their heads to say for sure, but a few are so light you might not see the dot... but once they start feathering in, if there are white/color alternating bars, it's a cockerel.

I had some eggs in an incubator that spiked in temp. None of the eggs loked like they were still Alive. Easter hatch day came and went and I gave up.

Last night I wend down to get rid of the eggs and turn the thing off and there was one little lonely chick in there. I stopped looking days ago, but she looks okay. I put her in with some others that were a bit older. I hope she didn't get dehydrated or something. Today is my birthday and my wish is that she lives. She is a reminder to not give up.

If she is still okay tonight, I think I will name her "Hope".

Hmmm.... I'll wager the three cinnamon dusted chicks at the bottom are all girls. If it turns out I'm right (in 5-6wks) I'll tell you how I knew!
