Mt. Healthy has had many Salmonella issues over the years. You can check the CDC website and put hatcheries in the search bar. That said, my first chickens years ago came from there via local TSC and were aewsome.

@Cknldy Thanks for posting this!

Both Southern States of E. Richmond and Prince George TSC said they are expecting chicks at the end of February. TSC said their order came in early last year, so chicks could be in as soon as mid-February.

Anyone know about Sussex, Midlothian, or Mechanicsville TSC?

Sorry, I didn't think to ask which hatchery the stock is coming from. I will ask next time I am there.

Looks like we may end up raising holiday birds (goose/duck) and a few Cornish X for the in-laws. Does TSC usually have geese? I have not seen them for sale locally, but haven't exactly been looking.

I have seen TSC with beautiful healthy ducklings. AND I have seen them at about 6 months of age and they were alll still alive, beautiful and healthy. Geese, that I am not sure of. But they also had healthy and beautiful Cornishx the problem I had with mine was they sat and ate and then they would sit and drink all the time. Non stop, finally gave them to a neighbor and he ate them. We did not have the heart to eat after raising.

Usually if you call Southern States ahead of time they will put a few of what you want in the order for you.I know two of them on the ES do.

Hey guys! I'm in Culpeper, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in Holland Lop rabbits. I am looking to start breeding them and selling babies, so I was just wondering. Or what breeds would ya'll be interested in?

Anyways, just to let everyone know. I won't have babies for a while though!!! At LEAST a couple months if the one I am thinking about getting is auctally pregnant.

Also, I WILL NOT SELL 'EASTER BUNNIES' I totally don't agree with it. Anyways let me know what breeds you would be interested in if I do start.

I was just wondering if anyone that's not super far away is intersted..or what breeds they would be interested in. :)

I'll check.

Went out to lock everyone up tonight and three of the girls started laying today. At least one of them should've been a Marans -- if so, I'm really disappointed. I hope I'm wrong and will give it a few weeks before deciding whether or not to replace them.

Oh no! I hope not a Marans. There is a lady near me and hers lay darker brown and some brown with dark spots. She got them as a gift from a friend. She told me that they were probably hatchery birds and not from a breeder. Hatcheries don't make it a point to breed a roo from a chocolate egg and a hen from a chocolate to ensure the likelihood of a pure chocolate egger.

here's what I'd suggest regarding rabbits. pick a breed YOU like, get quality stock from a reliable breeder that shows, learn everything you can about the breed, and start breeding and showing. you'll probably make more money selling quality offspring at a show than you ever would just thru local swaps.

a coworker raises mini rex. he's only been showing a year but has done well with them, said he's already pre-sold about $750 that he'll be delivering at the next show.
