G'day Chicken Keith. Wow I can't believe you and your Dad lost interest in going to the Great Barrier Reef. My hubby, kids and I go to Brisbane in August and LOVE the weather. The kids go surfing and swimming at the beach. To us it's perfect weather. Glad you got to see a lot of the country though and also a wild kangaroo. My Mum does wildlife rehab and has more kangaroos than she can count.

Lauralou you are so lucky to have your coop already done. Are you familiar with Hertzlers in Powhatan? It's a feed/supplly store run by a Menonite family. It's right off Hwy 60 just past the first Food Lion on Academy Rd ( heading into Richmond ). They have day old chicks, geese, ducks, guinea etc from early Spring on. They also sell hens and roosters. I've been there to check out what they have and the prices seem very reasonable. Here's their website if you aren't familiar with them. http://www.hffinc.com
Click on the "bulletin board" and you'll see a link for chickens which takes you to everything they stock.

AussieSharon,

Thanks for the tip! I checked out the link to Hertzler's. It's always nice to have another option. I may get chicks from them. But even if I don't, it's good to know where another supply store is. And it's conveniently located. I'll have to drop in and talk to them.

Hi Virginia people!

I'm JD, I live right outside of Roanoke, in Bedford County. I had chickens growing up and got back into them about 2 and a half years ago when I bought my house.

I currently have standard blue/black/splash Cochins, standard partridge Cochins, Easter Eggers, mixed color Silkies, blue wheaton Ameraucanas and blue Slate turkeys. (A couple of rabbits, 2 horses, a donkey and some cats too!)

I will be adding cuckoo Marans, white Ameraucanas and blue Ameraucanas this year and maybe some other stuff! (I like way too many breeds.)

Sure Sylvia, I'll have some this spring. My cochin pen is a splash rooster, 2 splash hen, 2 blue hens and 2 black pullets.

I'm assuming you mean standards?

I don't have any mottled, but would love to have some standard mottleds. Let me know if you find some, only found one person that had some and he said he didn't have many and didn't ship eggs. I'd be interested in a rooster even, could use my black pullets to cross him with.

Hi, I'm in Spotsylvania, our farm is in Locust Grove. Closest town is Fredericksburg. We have an old barn we have reburbished that is housing various breeds of chickens, pheasants, quail, pygmy goats and a calf. I have alot of fun feeding tham, although I admit I hate the cold and it has been quite chilly feeding lately! Butit doesn't seem to bother them! I'm getting between 9 and 12 eggs dailey, Anyone around here raising any sebastopol geese?

Hi VAGirl- welcome to this fun site. I'm on the Eastern Shore, about 25 m from VBeach, but lived in Loudoun for 10 years and while I love that area, the winters killed me! My daughter lived in Locust Grove/Orange county... but is now up in Loudoun. Anyway, you are getting a great number of eggs considering the cold and the short days. Good work!

WOW, all these folks in VA, I finally found the right site! If you are in SE Virginia, please email and lets keep in touch on breeds, seems like not many folks around here keep enough to count.

I have a TON of breeds ( I can't seem to choose ) and you can see the list on my website. Right now I am hatching cochins, sebright, d'uccle, RIR, Buff Orpington, Ameraucana, white crested black polish, and cuckoo marans (blue marans and blue andalusian will be laying soon)

my web site lists more www.endlessfarm.net

today I need silver sebright rooster, golden sebright hens, RIR laying hens, golden laced wyandotte rooster, any color d'uccle, buff cochins (standard) and maybe some various bantam cochins. Also sumatra, denizli, red shouldered yokohama, golden campine, and cream brabanter. If anyone has those within a few hours drive, let me know!

I always have chickens for trade, and will be sellling hatching eggs and hatching chicks to order.

love to chat and learn
