Aphrophet: sent you an email!
I had an interesting day yesterday. Hubby made us breakfast while I did my chicken chores. Oldest daughter and I then hit the road for an almost three hour ride to Cumberland, VA. It was a beautiful day for a drive! Stopped at Waffle House and got more sugar (pecan waffle!) because DH had fed us bacon and eggs. AT&T doesn't have a tower and no one has pay phones any more, so a nice man loaned me his Verizon phone.
Heather Bishop is a lovely lady. I would have enjoyed talking to her much longer, but she had a day off to enjoy and I had a DD holding a box of chicks, yelling "Mom, we need to get these babies home NOW!" She was soooo concerned and hasn't even peeked at them today. I wanted to hear more of Heather's emu story but it'll have to wait.
We got home with the eggs and chicks. I had won two different auctions from bishopschickens AND bought a few eggs. Those 21 eggs went into my incubator last evening with 29 of my birds' eggs. No, I'm not totally insane. I doubt all of the three week old eggs will hatch and I couldn't bear to throw them out. I'm sure many eggs will leave the incubator on offical candling day. Hopefully all the purchased eggs will hatch! Good incubator vibes and thoughts graciously accepted!
One chick was a Mister Pasty Butt. After I had their brooder set up and warming, we went to the bathroom for a cleaning. I couldn't get the water temp just right, so he didn't get put in the water. I rinsed my fingers over and over until I finally got to a lump that wouldn't move. Of course it was the umbilical stump scab! I quickly dabbed the spot with clean toilet paper and only got the slightest pink mark. He'll survive. I put him back with the others. Despite being right under the light, he shivered for way too long. I think that was for my benefit. He appears fine this morning.
I'm off to take another nap. This sinus thing is awful (I did NOT breathe nor cough on Heather, so she will be fine!) and I'll probably end up seeing the doctor tomorrow. Sweet dreams!
